Hartnoll brothers, Phil and Paul from Sevenoaks in Kent are better known as the English electronic dance music duo, Orbital.
After a summer of playing festivals, including the Timeshift Festival in Romania, Standon Calling in Herts, Brussels Summer Festival in (you guessed it) Brussels, Sonicmania in Japan and Beyond the Tracks in Birmingham, the pair are putting on two indoor shows in early December.
In a review of their performance at the recent Bluedot Festival, in Manchester, Emily Heward of the Manchester Evening News credited Orbital with bringing electronica dance music out of the clubs and putting it in front of a mainstream audience with their groundbreaking set on Glastonbury’s Other Stage in 1994.
Back then, there was no dance music played at Glastonbury so by the time Orbital were ready to bring their acid house and big rave music to the stage, the audience were more than ready and willing to take it to heart. Since then, the brothers have split up and gone their separate ways a couple of times. Including in 2014 when they announced on their website that they were “… hanging up their iconic torch-glasses and parting ways for the final time.”
Happily for Orbital fans and lovers of acid house, rave and dance music, the final time only lasted till February 2017 and the December shows are perfectly times to get everyone in the festive spirit.
